I am getting a Cloudflare Blocked Error

Why am I seeing a Cloudflare blocked error?

If you’re seeing a message that says you’ve been blocked by Cloudflare, it can happen for several reasons:

  1. Security Rules Triggered: Cloudflare protects websites by monitoring traffic for suspicious activity. If it detects behaviour that matches a threat pattern, such as unusual browsing behaviour, it may block you automatically.
  2. IP Address Blocked: If your IP address is on a blacklist that Cloudflare uses for security filtering, you may be blocked. This could happen if your IP address has been associated with spam or other malicious activity in the past.
  3. Country-based Blocking: Some website owners configure Cloudflare to restrict access from certain regions or countries. If your IP address is from a region that is blocked, you will not be able to access the site.
  4. Rate Limiting Applied: Cloudflare may temporarily block you if you are making too many requests to a website in a short amount of time. This could happen if you refresh the page too often or if a script on your device is generating multiple requests.
  5. Bot Protection Measures: Cloudflare uses automated systems to distinguish human visitors from bots. If you’re flagged as a potential bot, you may encounter a challenge (such as a CAPTCHA) or a block.
  6. Accessing Restricted URLs: If you try to access URLs or resources that are protected by strict Cloudflare rules, like certain admin areas or sensitive files, you may be blocked.
  7. Web Application Firewall (WAF) Rules: Cloudflare’s WAF may be configured to block specific actions, such as form submissions or access to certain scripts. If your activity matches a rule, the firewall could block you.

What can I do if I’m blocked?

  1. Check for a CAPTCHA: Sometimes, Cloudflare may present you with a CAPTCHA challenge to verify you’re human. Complete the CAPTCHA to regain access.
  2. Clear Your Cache and Cookies: Occasionally, a cached version of a block page might cause issues. Clearing your browser cache and cookies might resolve the problem.
  3. Use a Different Network: Try accessing the website from another internet connection, such as switching from Wi-Fi to mobile data, to see if the block is specific to your current IP address.
  4. Scan Your Device for Malware: If you encounter blocks frequently, your device may be infected with malware or a botnet. Running a full antivirus scan can help ensure your device is secure.
